tiki 26 anchoring

Postby kooka405 » 20 Jul 2010 16:27

I am building a tiki 26 in minneapolis and nearing the point of attaching the decks. before I do I would like to know what other builders have used for anchoring/mooring. for docking I would guess that cleats at the top of the crossbeams are adaquate. for anchoring there is the standard cleat on the fore/aft decks with appropriate backing above and below. I am also considering a bridle attached to u bolts/padeyes placed thru the stem in a horizontal plane (10 degree down forward ? ) where the stem is at its widest and deepest just below the deck. I would apprieciate any thoughts and ideas on the subject.

We moor our Tiki 30 from two large cleats bolted through the foredeck. We put extra layers of ply in this location to take the load. We moor with a bridle from these two cleats. David

If you use the forebeam ends, the bridle/rode will not make contact with the sheer due to the curvature of the bows, thus no chafing. I haven't done this yet, but it has been suggested that an appropriately sized set of chainplates (3/8" bolts for a tiki 26 should be enough) with backing plates, set back a few feet from the bows, midway between the waterline and the sheer, would make a seriously strong bridle attachment point. Useful for a sea anchor or mooring. Placement of another set at the sterns would make a good series drogue attachment point. That's actually where the idea came from, the series drogue folks.

Thanks for the replies. the bridle from the crossbeam looks intresting, i will likely use both methods.
