Started to build the Hitia 17 as soon as I received the plans middle of May 2009 with the help of a carpenter working full time.
I used 5 ply 5mm plywood ( 4mm not available locally) and red lauan for the timber parts including the crossbeams. Had to use 6mm thick aluminum pipe mast which is heavier than 3mm required as this was what was available off the shelf locally. Got my sprit main and jib from Hyde Sails. Painted with two part polyurethane primer, final coat and clear topcoat for UV protection
Thanks to Liz Woods of the JWD office for the quick replies to my queries and to the other Tiki and Hitia builders who shared their build stories and pictures on this forum (and the old one) from whom I got a lot of useful information for my build.
We were able to launch on July 26, 2009 at Taal volcano lake which is about 80 kilometers south of Manila. Its the rainy season so we had to wait for the downpour to stop. Here are a few pics.

I have just acquired an Australian Hitia 17 with worn out sails . The mainsail is a four sided affair with a pocket each for the mast and the sprit . Does someone have a standard set of measurements for these sails or do I have to resort to using my wonky tape measure ? Any help would be much appreciated
Hi Graham, I just received plans for my Hitia 17 (#398), I will start building soon. In the plans are the measurements for the sails, so I can share those with you. I am also in the market for a new set of sails of course, I have requested quotes from Rolly Tasker in Thailand (they already have the sail measurements) and from Budget Boater in the USA. I am happy to share the quotes with you. Maybe we can do a small group buy deal with these suppliers if we like their quotes and save on shipping costs. Where are you? I am in the Northern Beaches, or what is left of it after this gale. Gerben

Good to 'hear' an Aussie voice ! Okay I took measurements from my existing mainsail then contacted Fareastsails whom I have used before for a quote . To date I am still waiting for their detailed reply. Also I asked the same from Hyde Sails here in Australia . Hopefully soonish I may get a reply . To be honest because the sail is loose footed I think that quite a degree of tolerance can be used in the dimensions used . Mine looks like it was originally a plain gaff sail that had the mast sleeve added later .
I am located in Mount Perry QLD , 100 k's west of Bundaberg.
I have now found a sail maker who will supply my Hita 17 sails .
Fareast sails (Hong Kong I think ) will supply both , for just under $US1100 delivered .
To help others trying to refurbish their Hitia 17 s I have detailed the full specification for my sails .
Keep in mind that some of these craft , especially earlier ones use a 'Sprit sail ' rig . Also , it is possible that my boat is not built exactly to specifications , so others should carefully check the dimensions of their own particular craft .
