Trampoline lashings
Im ready to drill holes for the Trampoline lashings on the bow beams. Is there better way to attach the rope for the tramp.Im not real keen on drilling through the beams as it seems an area where rot could eventually start rearing its ugly head Thanks Jim

Re: Trampoline lashings
I marked the hole centers with a "+" larger than needed, so I could find the center of the hole for the final drilling. I drilled my lashing holes twice the diameter needed for the lashing. Next, I taped the bottom of the holes and swabbed the side walls with neat epoxy using a cotton swab. After that, I filled the holes with thickened epoxy and let it cure. When the thickened epoxy had cured, I sanded the surface smooth and drilled out the centers with a smaller size bit and finished by chamfering the edges as not to chafe the tramp lashing line. I'm still building, and I hope this method works. Bruce Tiki21 #899 Louisiana, USA

Re: Trampoline lashings
That's the best way to do it. . .Another way would be to epoxy in a pvc tube, chamfered in like manner. Mine are just plain, so I just surface coat them when they need it. So far, there has been no rot in the holes on either the mast beam or the fore beam.

Re: Trampoline lashings
I went with the plain method on my Tiki 21 and will monitor for rot, but on a recent tour of a Tiki26 I liked Thomas Nielson's method. He used cutting board material strips to hold lashings and then screwed/glued the strip to the bottom of his beams and the top of the decks. This does lead to getting the fore/aft and starboard/port lashing points closer to the same level. Links to pics: [url]http://www.beamreach.org/gallery/v/User+Albums/scott/sustship/tsunamicha...
