Tiki 26 free to a good home
I have a Tiki 26 with a good rig, good hulls, I think good beams (you'd need to check them yourself). However, her cockpit and hatchcovers are beyond repair and some non-structural members (toe rails, hatch comings) are rotten and must be replaced. Also the main beam lashing cleats on the starboard hull need to be replaced. In other words she's not beyond repair, but she urgently needs love and attention. Unfortunately I broke my back in an accident five years ago, and she hasn't been in the water since. Realistically, I'm not going to get her back in the water myself. She's located in southern Scotland, there are photographs of her here: http://picasaweb.google.com/stillyet/DancesWithWaves# Her rig comprises

One-piece mast[/*:m]
Mainsail [/*:m]
Roller furling jib[/*:m]
Cruising chute with snuffer[/*:m]
Storm Trisail[/*:m]
Stainless steel shrouds[/*:m]
Terylene running rigging.[/*:m][/list:u] All sails are by Jekylls; all are in good condition, but the storm trysail, which is cut with a zip luff and zips onto the mast above the furled mainsail, needs some modification to the halyard attachment - at present the leech is loose, which is not good in storm conditions! She also has a full width deck tent. She has of course anchors, winches, warps, instruments, solar panel, VHF radio, stove, mattresses and so on but she does not have an engine or a trailer. If no-one wants her I plan to donate her to the village bonfire on 5th November, so this is very much a matter of 'speak now or forever hold your peace'. For someone who comes and collects her and takes her away, she's free. If someone just wants just the rig then I'll sell that for £1,000 plus the cost of delivering it - which might be high, given it's a 26 foot mast.

Re: Tiki 26 free to a good home
Hi, What a wonderful opportunity! Sounds like she is in similar condition to how my T21 came to me (now restored and cherished) Can you tell me if the boat would need to be moved straight away or is she in a boatyard that I could take over the running cost of? Regards Simon T21 - "Tiki Sunrise" simon@surf6.net

Re: Tiki 26 free to a good home
Hi Simon, I'm your man! I've done this once already with a tiki 26 and was a very happy boy .Then work got hectic so I sold her and I've regretted that ever since.I would love to put Dances with Waves back into the world.I'm going on holiday in a week so I'm not going to be able to do much about this till I get back, but I might be prepared to send you a bit of a deposite to stop you burning her and to show i mean business. My email is jojohnharris@btinternet.com Transport is a thought.I live in N E Scotland at Findhorn between Elgin and Inverness .Where are you and the boat? Are you aware of a suitable hirable trailer in your area? I've just seen your ad and wanted to send this quick so I haven't had time to focus on specific questions but I'd love to see any other comments and pictures you have of her. I am very, very sorry that your back is the reason for this. Look forward to hearing from you soon Best wishes John Harris

Re: Tiki 26 free to a good home
Simon, I'm sure you'll be able to find a good, local home for Dances with Waves. But if not, I won't let that go to the bonfire! I'm in Texas, USA and I've been looking for a Tiki 26 on which to cruise full-time. I'd buy a plane ticket, do the repairs in Scotland and sail back home, before I allowed yours to become firewood. My email is wbbaer@gmail.com, if you'd like to keep me abreast of your plans for Dances. Cheers, Brett Baer Rockport, TX USA

I'm about as far away from you as it's possible to be and still be in Scotland - DG7 1QU.

Re: Tiki 26 free to a good home
Hello Simon, Rory McDougall here. Very sorry to hear that you wont be able to revive your Tiki 26 - hopefully you can still get to sail with others?? I know you have lots of interest in your generous donation coming in - but I had an idea............... One of the brave Jester sailors was on his way home to Russia when he lost his home built boat on the rocks in a gale just a few miles from home! Such a shame as Alexei had survived a F12 roll-over and dismasting off Bermuda 2 years ago during his trial sail for the Jester Challenge. He managed a jury rig and limped into Newport where kind souls found him a new mast for very little and help him get the boat back together. I met Alexei in Plymouth on his way back from succesfully completing this years Jester Challenge. What a really nice soul. He rebuilt his boat - an old Dragon class over the years with very little money and resources - as you can imagine in Russia. Now he has lost his home and faithful boart so close to home. I haven't contacted Alexei yet to tell him about your offer of a Tiki 26 to a good home and not sure he would even convert to sailing REAL boats instead of a monomaran!!?? I'm just brainstorming to see if I can help out a skint Russian sailor that has very little hope of raising the cash to get himself another boat. If your Tiki 26 is still available, please let me know and I will contact Alexei ASAP to see if he might be welcome of the opportunity. Best regards Rory & Cookie

Re: Tiki 26 free to a good home
Sorry to hear about your back Simon. As a T26 owner myself I looked with interest through your photos and noted that my boat was your sister ship "Tangata". I only recently took ownership and would be very interested in any background to the 2 boats if they were built around the same time. Also, the pics of the trailer look remarkably similar to mine. Did you share the trailer with the then owner of Tangata ? If so I hope you managed more than 45mph because I certainly didn't ! At 46 it snaked. At 45 it didn't. I believe the previous delivery found the same. Hope you manage to hitch a ride with others. I'm sure your boat just needs a bit of tlc. it certainly isn't a write-off. Regards Pete
