Tiki 30. What a boat?
Dear sea-people, I'm very interested in Tiki 30 (actually I own a 21). Waiting for the time to visit and to have a test on board, I'd like to know more from the very words of ones they are sailing on. Some aspects I'd specially like to know better: - seaworthiness - trailerability - how easy waves came on board - any information about the "pod" - accomodation, especially regarding galley and toilette (can we stand up, anywhere inside the hulsl or cook while sailing?) Please don't forget any other things you think important for an averall assessment. Many thanks and ... excuse for my english! Tommaso - Italy

Re: Tiki 30. What a boat?
Hi Vadoavela. Isail a Tiki 30 which i built over 3 years part time.About 18 months ago i sailed it down to the KENT GROUP of islands in BASS STRAIT which are about 100 n.m. from Lakes Entrance in south east australia.Ihad 2 friends with me on this trip. We started of in a slight breeze but as the day passed it built up into a 30 knot easterly with 3metre cross seas . i was glad i had built the pod version as we had reasonable protection from the constant spray .2 of s could sleep on the 2 metre bunks in the pod while the other was on watch. The gally on the port side is very good but you only have standing headroom with the hatch up . at sea we never have any trouble cooking on the 2 burner metho stove. on the starbord sid is the porta potti which my wife reckons is very good. The TIKI 30 with pod can not be trailerd as it is very hard to dissasemble and i would not like to trailer the TIKI without the pod version. The TIKI 26 YES. Ithink the TIKI is an excellent mid range boat that can take you on reasonably long trips One thing that i would like to mention is the length of the mast. If building without the pod 9 metres length is fine but i am extending mine to 10 metres as i am buildig a bimini for cockpit protection and a 9 mtre mast will not clear the bottom of the sail. Regards robsewell.

Re: Tiki 30. What a boat?
Yes indeed ,what a boat! I have been sailing our Tiki 30for 2 years now and have a very positive impression of the boat. It does what it was designed to do very well. I sail in the tropics and do not have a pod. I rainy weather it is not the most comfortable boat to go to weather in. There is no on deck shelter. The galley is really a sit down affair. You can stand in the open hatch. The cockpit is wonderful. 10-12 people can lounge around for drinks and eats. We have a rigid tube bimini which adds much to the comfort of the boat. Shade of course but also there is always something to hold onto. You can also add more canvas to extend the dry spaces during rainy weather. We have a slatted deck fwd and really enjoy this feature. Anchor storage, firm footing for sail handling and also someplace to lash jerry jugs of fuel and water when cruising as well as someplace to lash the tender aboard. We also lengthened our mast to allow mainsail clearance of the bimini. The boat IMO is a little under powered, but hey I have a heavy foot. The boat is trailerable in the sense that it is easy to relocate for a vacation or season. It is too much effort to assemble and disassemble to think of doing it for a weekend. It will fit onto one trailer or into one container. We are in south Florida and the boat lives close by on a mooring and most days I would rather sail than work so come on by for a ride. I am delighted with the Tiki 30. many photos and thoughts at http://tiki30.blogspot.com/ . [img]...
