Wharrams on the Chesapeake?
I'm interested in building a Tiki 26 or 30, for sailing on the US east coast, mainly Chesapeake Bay, and I'm looking for any local builders or any local (Mid-Atlantic) Wharram sailors. I've read through the Design Book and many of the posts and replies. Some of you found the rig on the Tiki 30 to be unhandy and underpowered, at least for light winds. I'd like to hear about the results of any changes to the rig, and whether the boat's balance or lead was affected. Also, many of you have added the deck pod. I don't think I will need more inside volume for now, and want to be able to trailer the boat, but I would like to hear more about any methods for dealing with rain, spray, and cold weather. I'd like to know more about what it's like to trailer the boat. I like the idea of sailing in other venues, which was impossible in my old boat, an Alberg 30, a 5-ton keel boat. I'm reading an article in Good Old Boat Magazine by a Tiki 30 builder. The 1st part appeared in the January/February issue. I apologize in advance for stupid forum mistakes. I barely even understand the FAQ's, much less the answers. Anyway, the forum is a joy to read, with its expertise, humor, and willingness to share. Cy Fishburn

Re: Wharrams on the Chesapeake?
I think for traillering it's all about having a good set up and a decent towing vehicle - there's a fair bit of weight by the time you add in all you equipment. Personally, I just use the trailer to take the boat (tiki 26)in and out of the water at the start and end of the season. I would need to be going somewhere else for at least a fortnight to consider it worthwhile. rgds gus

Re: Wharrams on the Chesapeake?
Hi, I have a Tiki 38 based on the South River just below Annapolis. If you are interested in seeing the boat and possibly sailing on it, contact me through this site. Glad to see you are interested, come down and look at the boat. It may not be the one you are interested in, but it will give you some general ideas about Wharrams. Ron Hall
