Hui Wharram Florida - 2018

By Thom Delforge

Well, it’s getting closer to May 18 - 20. The big day for our annual Hui Wharram in Fort Meyers, Florida. I have refrained from sending too many emails; however, I would like to remind everyone that it really helps to have an attendance count to better prepare. The Web page on Facebook does work, but due to my ‘tech’ deficiencies it is a bit clunky. Maybe some of our Wharram community members could help establish a simpler means to collaborate in the future. There will be two more reminders — please let us know if you are planning to come.

Wharram cats

So far: I have had indications that there will be a number of Wharrams, and perhaps a few other multi hull designs present. Tiki 38, Narai Mk V, Tiki 31, Tiki 21, (2 or maybe 3), Tangaroa (1), and hopefully others. (if you can bring your boat(s)).

Accommodations

The ‘Official’ Hotel is the Best Western Waterfront at our venue site. Special rate (really nice rooms views overlooking Hui Wharram - plus a ‘free’ breakfast at IHOP - next door) Mention the Hui Wharram to get the group rate and Ask about the vouchers for IHOP when checking in. There are a number of other motels from Motel 6 to Red Roof Inn within walking distance. There will be parking both at the North Shore Park and Best Western.

Directions

Directions are also on the www.facebook.com/huiwharram page and or Google North Shore Park, N. Ft. Myers Florida. My phone number is 309-212-1161

Friday

A note about Downtown Ft. Myers - It will be Third Friday Downtown Music Walk -- great time to be in Ft. Myers. Literally across the Cleveland Street Bridge to Downtown Ft. Myers

Saturday

Depending how much fun you had Friday, leisurely messing around with boats, sailing, maybe a race or two? I would like to reach out for help in preparing Saturday night program — loose-goosey as it is: Tales on the high seas, or any tips and suggestions to share. We may try to arrange a Skype with James and Hanneke if possible. They will be preparing for the ‘workshop aboard ’Spirit of Gaia’ in Greece which will begin shortly after then Hui. Noting the time difference, we may try for a Sunday morning connection.

SATURDAY Night Awards Dinner ~ 6:30 at the Three Fishermen Restaurant (Waterfront). Important to let us know how many diners we will have at The Three Fishermen’s Restaurant (at the venue over looking the event - with bar) -- at this point we hope to have enough people to warrant a buffet with three different main entrées. This should be around $25.00. Please email as soon as you can in order to help us plan.

Sunday

Messing around with more of the same.
