Where is "Piggy" now?
I'm trying to locate Piggy, an Ariki built by Tom and Don Hembroff in Vancouver at the same time (1973) and close to where I built my Oro. We both went sailing and eventually lost touch with each other. If anyone can put me in touch I'd really appreciate it. Incidentally, I kept my Oro for 30+ years and put about 30,000 ocean miles on her. She had the trysail ketch rig. I know she may be looked on as a bit of a dinosaur design now, but she never let us down in all that time, and if anyone wants to ask me anything about Oros please go ahead. Be warned though, I'm still in love with her and so may be a bit biassed! Thanks in anticipation, Harold Goddard

Re: Where is "Piggy" now?
Hello Harold, Tom used to be active on the old forum as "layinglow". I remember about 3 years ago he posted a georgous picture of Piggy sailing in the Southern Gulf Islands. As far as I know the boat is in home waters, and you might try finding Tom or Don on Telus lookup. A search of the old forum might also yield some clues. Always hoped to come across the boat too, same home waters...I'm building a Tiki 38 on Hornby Island, hulls nearly finished. If you're ever up this way, give me a heads up via this forum; I'd love to hear about your adventures on Kiskadee! -Alf

Re: Where is "Piggy" now?
Hello Harold Kiskadee looked to be a very nice boat and the articles in Sea People were quite inspiring! The Oro is a great boat and being a Canadian maybe you know something of John Bellinger and his Oro Pyxis X? I met John in Sydney, NSW, around 1989-1990 when he had sailed across the Pacific. John re-built the beams in Sydney before returning across the Pacific. Haven't heard anything since then but I would have a photo or two of John and Pyxis X in Homebush Bay so I'll see if I can find them and post them here. But would you know what happended to John & Pyxis X? GregF

Re: Where is "Piggy" now?

Hi Harold. Well, well, well. It has been a long time. I haven't been checking the Wharram site since the change over. Piggy is currently (and has been for 20+ years) moored in Ladysmith. That's just south of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Piggy is getting terribly close to 40 but still capable of turning out a steady 9+knots on a close reach, while towing the inflatable! Me, on the other hand....hmmm..I think I've got a few gray hairs, and have slowed down to a respectable suburban lifestyle...maturing is the word...BUT..I still engage in the offshore S.Pacific cruising dream....maybe one day soon.. cheers Tom. I'll have to email your address.

Hi Tom, Great to "find you"! We were in BC a couple years back with PKok and tried to find you. If you want to see what has become of Kiskadee google Kiskadee Charters! At least she's not rotting on a mooring! Yes Tom, e-mail me and lets get caught up on the news. Pic (if it comes out) is Grenada a few years back!

piggy is in BC

HI Harold, I talked to Tom Hembroff yesterday. He is prepairing for another voyage! If you email me I will give you his email and his phone number. We recently cam back from another Pacific voyage, our third, and that makes about fifty thousand miles for Earthlight. I shall not go on till I find out if this way of getting hold of you works. All best from Wendy and I. Iain
