Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
We bought a Tiki 21 at the end of last season and need to know the correct way to rig her ? everthing there,(I think). We are near Lancaster in North West U.K and would like to see similar boat rigged if at all possible?

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
Paddler, I've only had my Tiki21 on the water for a very short season last year, but very happy to let you see what photos I have. I'll try to sort them out on line and come back with a link for you. I have the boat in the Netherlands in the Zeeland Delta and am really looking forward to trying her a bit more seriously this year. Good luck. I hope you have a great season. Tiki21

Paddler, I have a dolphin striker - it's a must to take the loads imposed by the mast. I has the same effect as deepening the beam section for the mast compressive loads. I'll try to sort out photos this evening, including dolphin striker. Tiki21

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
Thanks very much for pics tiki21 they are very helpfull but at same time realise the vast amount of work we need to do on our old Tiki 21 to 'bring her back'. . mistake to buy without Plans I'm thinking.. .are the hull connections for lanyards on striker, eyebolts and is striker about 200mm long? . Thanks again for your assistance.

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
Paddler, 2 photos of striker at: http://gallery.me.com/carruth1#100176 (I must work out how to use the photo gallery properly) You can see the binding at the end which stops it from splitting under load and the plate that retains the cable. The striker is just over 200mm long. It has a wire strop with eyes and each eye is lashed to the beam, just inboard of the inboard beam bearing. I used 4mm cord with about 6 loops from the eyes to the beam. Incidentally all the wire rigging was getting a bit rusty looking so I covered it with layer on layer of boiled linseed oil. A bit messy, but i think how they used to do wire rigging on the old sailing ships. It dries up to a hard finish. Please don't hesitate to ask for more detail - my sailing season has been delayed with a ruptured Achilles tendon, so no launching before late July! Tiki21

Thanks again for info, hope you don't miss too much sailing ! maybe I could ask if anyone has any used t21plans for sale on this site or is that not allowed? . .will renew standing rigging also but concerned that may not have been 'to plan' when we got her?

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
Paddler, I have a spare set of plans as I had bought a set and then got a second set when I bought ICARUS. They are a bit moth eared, but they are complete. I guess as long as you do not build a new boat, there should not be any problems with licenses from Wharram. It will take me a couple of weeks before I can dig them out as I need to be a bit more mobile. Maybe best to take this off line! Tiki 21: tiki21@mac.com

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
Does anyone have any clear photos of a Tiki 21 rigged with a cruising chute. I have never rigged mine and am not sure if it has been used with a pole (bowsprit), or if the clew is secured on the centre line, or to the leeward hull. Tiki 21

In this (quite) nice shot from Boatsmith, [img]http://api.ning.com/files/1bApijUUn*a-*EAWqe1sbDK*WV8AKdcGwxoRePWJqck_/2... you can see the blue line snapshackled to the anchor rode: it is also the movable tack line for the light air sails. It goes to blocks at each bow, and then through fairleads mounted on the forward beam, to the cockpit. This allows the tack to be moved from port to starboard, or any point in between.

Re: Can anyone tell me how to rig a Tiki 21 ?
We rig ours with a tack line that runs between the stemheads. This allows us to pull the tack either port or starboard as needed. If you are going deep down then you can pull a line from the bow cleat down under the bridle and come up the outboard side of the hull. A bit of a hassle but allows the chute to pull well another 6-7 degrees deeper. We have since doubled the purchase by putting two mall blocks on the tack shackle for easier control. We can remove these when the wind is very light. Our next boat will have a carbon sprit that will extend out past the stems and allow for a furling screecher and or asym. We like to go fast.

Boatsmith, Thanks for the photos - super above and below water. It looks like a really practical arrangement, which I will try out. Tiki21
