drain plugs,bilge pumps,
Im looking at putting some extra drain holes in my cockpit Only half the cockpit will be open as I have a cabin in the front section. At the moment I have 4 1inch holes but I think I need a couple of 2 inch as it wont drain fast enough.Whats a good drain plug? with some sort of flapper on it to stop water entering the boat, also Im looking at some sort of bilge pump setups any suggestions Thanks Jim

Re: drain plugs,bilge pumps,
You can get fittings designed to cover the hole so that seas dont come up through, they look like half a clam shell and come in metal or plastic. I have fitted them and they work well. We are putting bigger drain holes in the floor of our Tiki30 cockpit and are going to use a plastic fitting with a grating in it to reduce the possibility of losing stuff down the holes and the clam shells underneath. We also have holes in the sides of the cockpit just above floor level (one in each corner) and have not experienced water coming in through them to date. Robert

Re: drain plugs,bilge pumps,
The 1" holes will drain slowly. 2" holes will drain much faster. Our drain holes are in the aft vertical section of the cockpit and we don't have issues with water coming in. Grates will keep things from going escaping but will also slow the water a lot. A 2" drain will need about a 4-6" grate to allow the same flow. David
