What ist this line used for?
In the plans of the Hitia 14 it is called "preventer line", without further explanation. It seems to be between the mast (?) and the shackle where forestay and bridle meet (or is it the foresail's tack?), on this photo it even seems to have a tackle: http://www.wharram.eu/photos/albums/Hitia%20Range/Hitia%2014/_MG_6197Bd.jpg What is this line used for, and when? Thanks Ralf

Re: What ist this line used for?
Wow! Great photo! I believe that line is the tack downhaul for the jib. It adjusts the tension on the jib luff more easily than using the halyard, hence the tackle. If so the term preventer would be an error since that's a line running forward from a mainsail clew preventing a jibe from being more traumatic.

I have no opinion on the function of the line, but I gotta say I love the photo.

The photo - it's a pitty that is so hidden on wharram.com ... I found it by chance, and if the web master is reading this: No Hitia 14 photos are accessible directly from the PHOTOS link at http://wharram.com/hitia14.html. Another good shot is this: http://www.wharram.eu/photos/albums/Hitia%20Range/Hitia%2014/_MG_6196bd.jpg
