Tiki 21 front beam spray
I remember reading somewhere about a Tiki 21 front beam spray deflector ( can't remember if it was on this forum). As my beams are not painted yet this would be the right time to incorporate one. Can anyone shed some light on such a device and if so a link to,or a description of, same. Tiki 21 no442 Thanks Bill

Re: Tiki 21 front beam spray
Hi Bill, I used 4mm ply to make up a fairing for the front beam on Cookie. I used the same ply to make fwd facing bulkheads and then notched in a 12mm x 12mm piece of pine on the leading edge. Because my beam was already built and painted, I coated all interior surfaces of wood with 2 x coats of epoxy during assembly and left 3 drain holes open in the bottom to make sure the interior of fairing is always drained and aired out. I then glassed over the outside before painting. Let me see if I can find some photos.......... For me the fairing worked great. I built it whilst in a marina on Oz, so had good chance to see how it improved the ride when surfing hard and digging into the next wave face and also when thrashing to windward. For my Tiki 21 it was a huge improvement for sailing in big seas and allowed me to sail harder if I wanted. 8-) I've finally got a website going for Cookie and have started the story.............trouble is the chapters may take as long as the sail did :geek: link is - http://www.roryandcookie.com Happy building Bill :D

Re: Tiki 21 front beam spray
Thanks Rory Your web site looks great I had a look, I'm sure you will be a great source of inspiration to many, you have certainly helped me along in my build which is a bit "becalmed" at the moment ! I think the build is a bit like climbing a mountain with a few false summits. If you get a chance it would be great to see a few further away photos of your fairing as I can't quite tell where they start and finish and how they work from the close-up views. Cheers Bill
